I didn't know where to post this thread, I figure this section is good as I may end up talking about many of the folks who use, "God said...", "God told me" and "God showed me" yada yada yada.
I have always been a dreamer. Even as a child I would dream things, yet not understand the magnitude of it all. However, the dreams would "come to pass". As I got older, the dreams intensified and again, I continued to write them off by saying, "well, everyone dreams" but soon I began to become afraid of dreaming because most of them I would see actually happen. It was only upon salvation that I began to understand that these dreams/visions of mine actually had purpose but I still didn't know what to do with them because I knew of no one who was also going through or has gone through the same thing.
The day it really broke for me was on September 10, 2001. I had just moved to South Carolina only 6 days before. I was in my bedroom and I suddenly began to cry. I began to "see" dead bodies everywhere - massive death. I then saw a bleeding heart and it grew bigger and bigger. I didn't know why I was feeling this way and I couldn't control the crying. My friend came into the room that I was in and she asked why was lying on the floor crying and I did my best to explain what I was seeing and feeling. It was very difficult for me to sleep that night.
The next morning, as I was preparing to leave for the day I receive a phone call from my mom in Connecticut. All she said was "Monica, turn on your television, someone hit the World Trade Center". I was not prepared for what I was about to see. She called right after they began to report the first tower being hit. As my mom and I were talking on the telephone, the second plane flew into the second tower and as you all know, it was downhill from there as the hours passed.
We all know that thousands were hurt, wounded and killed on September 11, 2001. Did I know the night before that the Lord was speaking to me and telling me to pray. No, I didn't. All I knew was that death was on my mind and the "burden" would not lift.

For the past week or so, I have not been able to sleep well. I have had many dreams - some are from eating too late, some seem to be from my own desires and some are from the Lord. One may ask, how do I know which is which - eventually, we will get to that.
I was awaken in the wee hours of the morning today. I tossed and turned and just couldn't get back to sleep. Finally, in all frustration I sai, "what is it Lord" and immediately He began to impress upon my heart people both well known and not so well known who have said that "God told/showed" them something. He also showed me a friend of mine who is saying that God told her that it is His will for her to date a particular man. Mind you, they are both married (but separated). I grieved, yet prayed this morning. How can we say something is of the Lord yet we have scripture that goes directly against what the person/people is/are saying that God said?
I also began to pray about people who receive "personal prophecies" and become so excited about it because it is exactly what they wanted to hear, but when it doesn't come to pass, they blame the prophet yet not themselves for not discerning the voice of the Lord (this is not to say that they prophet should not be held accountable).
One of the main ways to discern the voice of the Lord is through the Word of God. If anyone says anything contrary to the Word of the Lord then you would need to chuck it as not from God. For instance: God is against adultery; His Word says to even look on a woman (or man) in lust, one has committed adultery in their heart. Therefore, why would He tell you that it is okay to date a married man?
I have learned that there are 3 voices:
The voice of the Lord The voice of the enemy Your own voice.
In this post I would like to discuss ways to discern which voice we are actually hearing, and how to KNOW the voice of the Lord.

Sometimes the voice of the enemy and your own voice are one and the same. Ouch! Tight but it's right. Care to expound (to get the discussion going)?

Sometimes the voice of the enemy and your own voice are one and the same. Ouch! Tight but it's right. Care to expound (to get the discussion going)? Well, being that the flesh is one of our greatest enemies, when we fail to rein the flesh in, we're subject to be led by it--thus heed its voice. However, when we allow our spirit man to reign over our flesh (by the power of the Holy Spirit), our own voice will not be the voice of the enemy, but rather an instrument of the Holy Spirit, for "he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit."

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere. - James 3:17 God’s voice fills you with love and peace. Voices that scream shame and confusion are not from Him. He is not the God of confusion, but of peace. Even in rebuke, His voice is always gentle. He can be really firm at times, especially when we attempt to ignore and argue, but He never yells or tears you up inside like other voices can and do. His voice always brings clarity and peace, even if it’s saying something we don’t want to hear. But even in this, there comes a certainty that it is indeed Him and Him alone. Not only does God provide the right answer, He even cues us in on the right question to ask. He is so awesome.

The portion of scripture that came to my mind when I read this post was in John 10:27... "My sheep know my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. Be blessed Jessica

Your testimony was trully a blessing to me aswsou. I am a dreamer as well and I have had a couple of dreams come to pass..........I had this one perticular dream, I was visiting this church I used to go too and In my dream I started feeling strange I didn't know what was going on, and a young girl that went to that church turned to me and said that there is a demon in the church. I get chills just talking about this dream. I just prayed and went on didn't think anymore about it. Than a couple a monthes latter I had to go to a service at same church that was in my dream because my pastor had to preach for one of ther Pastoral Anniversary Services. Anywho I started feeling bad and I felt my heart beating so fast and so hard I was really starting to get scared, So finally one of the mothers of the church helped up to the front of the church so they can pray for me. So they prayed and they went ahead and called the ambulance. I felt that there was something wrong and that there was a evil spirit in that church..... Also my borther in the Lord who was on the organ seen the demon trying to get to me cause at this point I was surrounded by the elders and ministers of the church....My brother in the Lord just went off in the Spirit. Then finally the ambulance came a took me to the hospital...........My heart rate was in the 200 bpm and they had to give me a medication through IV that actuallly stops your heart so they can get it back into a normal rythem......Wewwwwwww Lord!!! I was so scared and when they give you that medication it makes you feel bad for a minute or too I thought I was about to meet my maker that night. Thank God im still here and its only by the Grace of God.............Anywho after everything was said and done God brought that dream back to my remembrance He was trying to warn me that I was about to be attacked. So I have learned to pay more attention to my dreams.
Be Blessed Jessica
