Hey Guys, Has anybody heard about what happened in California? There was a large turn out in minority voters who voted democratic for Obama....
BUT>>>>>>> They also voted consevrative against prop 8. Thus defeating Gay Marriage! LOL
Again... My stance and statement has been validated. Has anybody noticed how although democrates don't make it a point of go after gays... They make less progress under democratic leadership than republicans?
Could that again be the fact that in a lot of cases the republicans milk that issue to keep the Christian vote... along with the idea that one can't vote Christian values and democratic at the same time...
I'm glad that has been officially been proven untrue in California.... Anybody else care to share their thoughts? What do you all think about the protesting in California?

Protecting marriage, was not even an option on the ballot in Nevada.
California, is a HUGE state, and in Southern California alone, there are 213 COGIC churches. This does not even include additional churches in Southern california, and it does not include any churches in Northern California.
This says a great deal to me, that the SAINTS, who normally don't vote, did in fact do so, and major campaigning against this bill went into play.

Here's an article about the protesting; more specifcially in reference to the Mormon/latter Day Saints Church www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-protest7-2008nov07,0,3827549.story There are ppl that still prefer "traditional values". Although I will admit that I'm not sure how long it will last. IT's good to know that there are ppl that still hold true to some core values. Side Note: Regarding what was stated, I don't vote republican because of gay/abortion issues exclusively. And there are many others that although that's an issue, that isn't why those who are Christians (or even those who aren't) vote Republican.

Nikkol, It may not be why you specifically have voted republican... But it most definitely one of the reasons that many Christians have voted republican in the past. And I personally saw 2 different churches no make that 3 urge their members not to vote for Obama for this reason and for morality in general...
But most found it very hard to do considering that McCain didn't fit the bill as a man with family values and morals.

I voted for Bush for years ago to only realize that he didn't do anything to end abortion and limit gay rights. Bush looked 10 time better than McCain/Palin ticket.... Sarah Palin, not only gave the Rep. Party a black eye, but also to the church... and was a complete embarrassement to the USA... She came into this Rep. party with bags of issues. More than just Troopergate... there are something new every week! She was instructed to purchases six suits for herself with a spending limit of $25,000.00... she spent about $150,000.00 on herself, husband and children! and ten of thousands more after the it was reported. On top of all of that.... She thought she was speaking to a Frence Leader and accepted an hunting invitation from a foreign leader, without her husband knowledge and Rep, turn out to be a Canadain comedian. Do yo know how danagerous that can be toward this country? Suppose it was a foreign spy or terriorists who were planning to use her to destroy this country. No wonder her husband follow her with the kids throughout the campaign. She caused division with the Rep. Party and within campaign advisers. She seduced racism, hate and division at her rally. Sarah Palin is power hungry... knew she was far from being ready for VP!!! and really not qualified to be Governor of any state. There are more coming out of what happen behind closed doors of the campaige... Now she underinvestigation for over spending... Knowing all this.... Why did you voted for them ....

hey Guys, Like I have stated many times before... I noticed that oddly the gays seem to make the most advancements under republican leadership. How odd that as soon as the democrats get in office...the same people who are voting democrat are also still able to vote against gay marriage etc...
I personally believe that more of these issues should be decided on a general ballot. That way we are able to vote for all of the things that concern us rather than declaring that certain issues are mainly "republican" "democratic".
But honestly... again I want to suggest that the republicans may have used the gay issue to keep the Christian vote...purposely not putting an end to abortion or the end of the gay marriage disccussion.
Oh yeah... honestly I would like to know as well... besides abortion and gays...are there other reasons that people voted republican?

AT: I actually talked about my reasons in another post. But as a person who follows the stock market and has a vested interest in such, Obama may make me pay more for gains than I think is fair. Also, i don't really feel as from what he stated, his tax plan will be helpful to me. But those things are moreso reasons that I personally wasn't for Obama. I also am not a big believer in more government involvement. Now granted the fact that he won means that I'll pray for him and his family, etc. Can't cry over spilled milk. Granted it was moreso understandable that he would win and also for "balance purposes" you tend to go between Dem and Rep. (how I wish we could have that in Philly). So it makes sense.
In studying politics, you'll also see that the president has limited power which was made that way purposely...hence the reason for the 3 branches of government (executive, legislative and judicial) because of that, I know that although Bush won, many decisions aren't made perse by Bush. Not to mention that for the last I believe 2 years, the Democrats have a majority in both the house and senate.
Kitty: With the same token, it's usually seen that if you're black you are a Democrat. Can you imagine (as a Philadelphian) the looks and jeers I get for being Republican? And that has nothing to do with the "gay/abortion issues" but just because I'm black. The "snide remarks" or the ppl that curse because I wasn't voting "black"? Being seen as "anti-black" or racist against black people? Not because of ANYTHING more than I didn't "vote black" or I'm not a democrat. But I tend to not make many remarks saying that the only reason why many vote Democrat is because that's what black people are suppose to do. Why? Because that doesn't have to be the case for ALL people. Same as saying that only reason ppl vote Republican is because of two issues. So to me, it seems unfair to make that judgement the same as if I made the same judgement mentioned above....make sense?

This is my issue with us as Christians. I dont believe we should vote based on party, color, or creed. Nor how it affects us personally. We should be seeking GOD's will.
PS I have voted Republican...

I also agree with this statement, bro. But you would be surprised with how much slack I got (including from this board) when I stated that I would not vote for Obama. Even after I said that the abortion/gay issues were not the only reasons, it was if I didn't write it and was told that I was, yet these same people would vote ONE issue - poor or education etc. Yet, there is nothing wrong with that. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with it, just that it is a bit hypocritical to tell someone that they should not JUST vote on the abortion/gay issues then turn around and say I am voting for ABC because of the poor or education etc. Which is JUST ONE issue. I have been called racist, been told that I don't want to see black people get ahead, told that I should be ashamed - all because I did not vote the Obama/Biden ticket. I have been asked why do I refuse to vote black? Or democrat? As if those 2 are reasons to vote for anybody? It is sad that a vote can no longer be a private issue but one that is questioned, ridiculed, put down and mocked because one does not vote the way that the other feel that they should. And God forbid if you do not rejoice because the first "black" man has become president! Then you have just committed the unforgivable sin. Our people fought to give us the RIGHT to vote, not the RIGHT to vote BLACK (or democrat). Prior to that we had no voice. ---- back to my corner for real now.

See...
This is why I want to discuss this whole notion in regards to politics...
I'm not looking to bash anyone for voting a particular way... I'm looking to understand it because it really truly doesn't make sense to me...
For example... many companies and big businesses want to claim that they don't want regulation, don't want governemt control...But they sure want these governemt dollars (tax payers money) when it comes to a bail out...
I honestly believe that republicans make people poor and put the US in danger.
Our debt to other countries is just plain scary!

I declined because I didn't understand why my vote could not remain PRIVATE. I declined because I didn't understand why people were questioning my vote. I declined because I have already been called a liar when I stated that abortion/gay were not the issue. Why would I subject myself to that again?
