Pray saints! This one hits close to home....not only did Ellis speak at our Bible conference last year but I saw how this upset my pastor.
I got the impression that there is more to this story than meets the eye....not saying he isn't guilty of something, but I was led to believe it had more to do with ignorance to tax laws.
I don't want to argue his guilt or innocence, I just want to urge all to pray, and pray some more!

...I got the impression that there is more to this story than meets the eye.... You are probably very right about that. Amen. As I said before, and hope we will remain clear, debating this man's guilt or innocence was and is not my intention in starting this thread. I do wonder how and why the courts became aware of and involved in this church matter, especially in view of scriptures like this from 1Corinthians 6: 1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? 2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? 4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. 5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? 6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. 7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? 8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

I got to say this "my sister was in the courtroom during this trail, and the statement that got the judge was that the attorney said "Bishop E is not the only one who is doing this that 99% of ALL pastors take from their churches"
The judge got upset and said, "since ALL pastors are doing this than I need to make an example and sentenced Bishop E to 18 months"
From there mayhem broke out in the courtroom.....

That is what I thought, that perhaps he was being made an example of in the courts. Chicago is a political town, and when you know the right people, more than likely you can get by. There are people he fellowship with that are well-connected. He could have received a possible ten years.
Bishop E is a well-known Pastor and he comes on the Word Channel on Saturday at 11:00 am (CST).
I try to see God's glory in all situations, especially when an ANOINTED MAN OF GOD is involved. I just believe that a whole bunch of folks behind bars are gonna get to know Jesus Christ, and get saved in the process. This is just a temporary hindrance, and will not stop the plan of God.
Also, in the process, a lesson for Bishop E has come at an expensive cost, his freedom.
MissKay, you did not say he was anointed... I did. (lol)
Be Blessed.

I do wonder how and why the courts became aware of and involved in this church matter, especially in view of scriptures like this from 1Corinthians 6: We have several people in our church that work in gov't and I believe at one that works for the IRS. It has been circulating and is apparently no big secrect that they are targeting churches. We then got in to a discussion about faith based grant money -- is it a handout or another way for the gov't to control faith-based orgs? That's another topic!!!
