As a Canadian Indian, I am wondering about the impact of Dr. King and Correta on your lives, your community, your County, your State, your country and the world.
Do the young people today appreciate the path that was blazed for them?
What more needs to be done?
Is it time yet to pay back and bless the world?
(this one is a question I ask myself..) Do we wait till all are out of bondage before we start to make our world a better place for all? In my Aboriginal community, we stil have a lot of the blame game which has paralized us.

I must comment on this and people may not like what I am about to say (beware):
In regards to the impact Dr. King has had on our community, very little.....Socially we have progressed slightly but economically (where it counts) the struggle continues......
Coretta Scott King had NO impact on our communities, she was the widow of Dr. King and IMO took advantage of that situation and built a life around being his widow......
I can not name one thing this lady has done to impact our lifestyles.....well one thing she did and that was to keep the memory of Dr. King alive but as far as taking over and running with the baton that was handed to her NO she dropped the ball and her children did as welll.....
The young people today cannot see the impact of the Civil Rights movement because our struggle is different.
To me there was never an issue on where to seat on the bus...or what day to shop...my issues are "Is there money to shop" "I can't afford to ride the bus and why i got to ride the bus to a white school in order to get a decent education when I pass two black schools in my neighborhood.... it still promote white supremacy and the inferiority complex that blacks have in America..."White is Right"
What was the struggle really about?

I personally believe that the church was the one supposed to be carrying on Dr King's work and not necessarily his family. If he was the one with the mandate and call who are we to put one on his wife and family? The fact that they offered their dad up as a sacrifice and supported him to their detriment is itself a ministry. At least she allowed her husband to devote his life to others without walking out on him - unlike most ministers wives today Lawd knows we have enough folk in church to start a coup-what have we done with the opportunities that opened up for us through MLK's work? Socially our problems will be solved if all these churches and ministers, black business empires and all the privileges that the pulling down of segregation has brought us opened their coffers and used the public voices that God has given them to get involved in decision and policy making. The last i heard even H bLack colleges were shutting down due to lack of funds as we continue to compete who has the best mtv crib -one man-just one man brought segregation to a halt. In typical fashion we are still waiting for someone else to come and shoulder our complains and champion us but the gates were opened so that we will now have opportunity to make the difference for our children and our children's children. Each and everyone of us-no moses is gonna be coming out of no desert shaking a cobra stick at the pharaohs that rule in our world today for us-we would only end up shooting him anyway and then complaining about whether he was tongue talking and what his wife never seemingly did . The problem is we have too much today-we can live not doing anything and not making a difference and get by especially those of us who call ourselves children of God. How many of us claim to know Him and yet since we got saved we have made no valid contribution to society in any shape or form talking about we waiting on revival. 12 apostles shook the entire world for Jesus. 12. 1 man changed the course of history. What are you who is reading this post doing? I am off to listen to some chinese music now!!

What are you who is reading this post doing? I am off to listen to some chinese music now!! I agree with you, Moses led the Israelite out of the house of bondage.... and not one of his sons nor his wives, led them to the promised land. It was Josehua, who led them to the promised land. Mrs. King, Martin III, Yolanda, and the other two kids, was not called to be Josehua. But there is a Josehua Generation that God placed the spirit of Moses on and the anointing, to led us to the place that He have us to be. Mrs. King did what God told her to do. Too many churches are about self, their dreams, visions and ministries and not about God's Dreams and Visions for His People. After searching the web-site.... I can't find anything about Dr ML King Jr.'s children being marry or having children, Well.... so far I think I was wrong. ATT

I can't believe what I'm reading.
And even more, I can't believe that I actually see "Amens" to most of it.
That just grieves me terribly.
Sista Bee, as usual...you are ON IT. It is actually a principle of biblical leadership that you are speaking of. "And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!" (Numbers 11:29).

The only thing that stands out to me regarding her is her stand on alternative lifestyle..... besides being the wife of MLK, and a member of a church, she put that in the same level as race.... couldn't believe it....

Maybe its an age thing.... what about the tireless effort to ensure that her husband is honored as one of three people to have a national holiday with the other two being Presidents?

I want to reply to so many but let me start with GDD:
I do understand that both Martin and Malcolm preached economic empowerment but Dr. King begin to preach it in the final days of the civil rights movement.....In which I have an issue with...SOcial acceptance mean NOTHING without economic Respect.....
Bee in regards to Mrs. King not being passed the baton, i don't think people passed her the baton, I think she went to PICK IT UP only to memorialize the memory of her late husband....
A greater impact IMO would have been to start an economic development center for the southeastern region that teaches finances, how to deal in a Capitalistic society, empowering youth to become leaders as oppose to lobbying for these several museums and monuments that are in honor of Dr. King.....and lobbying to have the history books rewritten to tell the story that the gun James Earl Ray used did not kill Dr. King..........come on.... our children are failing at record numbers and there is a black person who has the ear and the respect of the Nation and the government and the only fight and cause you have is to get the story (a onelineer at that) re written so that History (HIS story) is given correct.......
When has the history of African American been told correct by McGraw Hill?
IMO if I was the wife of a well known leader and in some ways I am the wife of a known leader, will I try to get him memorialized and constantly live in the shadow of my dead husband or will i pick up the pieces and try to fulfill his vision?
As Bernice King so eloquently put it yesterday (and I am paraphrasing) "Please America let's stop living with the DEAD"
