The beloved and outspoken wife of civil rights pioneer Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., has passed away.
Coretta Scott King suffered a stroke and heart attack last August. She had been working toward a recovery at home in Atlanta.
Earlier this January, she made a celebrated public appearance at the Salute to Greatness dinner, a major fundraiser for The King Center, in Atlanta.
Mrs. King founded the King Center in 1968 in Alabama shortly after the assassination of her husband.
She was 79 years old.

Yes, it just feels like a legacy has ended, even though her and her husband's efforts have made a major difference in Society.
And I think about how she didnt remarry, and spent the rest of her life supporting the cause. I wonder did she not want to fall in love with anyone else, or did she think it would sort of put a darkening on the legacy as her being the widow of the Great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?
I guess we will never know.

Auneeqsol:
I'm glad to know someone else has wondered a bit about the "family bizness"!
I admit I find it interesting that given what has appeared to be such an intense focus on the family legacy, none of the four King children have ever married or had children.

I guess we will never know. I often wondered that too, when I was a little girl and it would be around the time of Dr. King Bday or during Black History month or something my mom said I would always pray for Coretta Scott King.... And throughout my life I have always felt sorry for her, it was just something sad about her life TO ME....... It was like she could never get past being the widow of Dr. MLK and she was young when he died....... May God Rest her soul and I pray that she finds the peace that she was longing for..............

It would really be a shame for the generational legacy of Dr. King to end with his children.
Somebody bear or sire a child for goodness sake!
I'll be in Atlanta this weekend; I plan to go view the body at Ebenezer on Monday.

The children maybe married but this is a statement from her Obituary:
Besides her four children and her sister, Edythe, of Cheyney, Pa., survivors include her brother, Obie Leonard Scott of Greensboro, Ala.
I really don't think those children ever married and produced children......
I maybe incorrect..............

The funeral is on CNN now... the children are married and have children.... Thank You............. I was wondering if it was a rumor or truth. I started to comment on it and take what was said as fact , but that little voice in me say it is a rumor. If I post it as a rumor... than I will be attack for not going with the majority. We as the Body of Christ (this include myself, cause I have a bad happen of doing this sometime) need to stop being so quick to take something someone say and repeating it as fact, when it may be a lie, rumor or partial true mixed with lies. I'm glad Dr. King seed didn't stop at his children, but have grandchildren and may be great grand that will pick up from where he stopped. God Bless ATT

from what I understand they didn't want their families to live in the shadow of their father as they have... they keep their personal lives personal... if you see the service, they have spouses sitting beside them as they are lined up in order of age... may or may not be true, but I know what I see...
