He suffered spiritual and a physical death at the cross.. Did Jesus really suffer spiritual and physical death at the Cross or was it more an emotional / physical death at the cross? what do you mean emotional?

I dont know what we are classifying " spiritual death " as. I call spiritual death eternal separation from God. Jesus did not suffer this.
Jesus however did die a very real and quite painful physical death,

Agreeing with Bro GDD.....
I don't quite understand what is being defined as a "spiritual death!"
I believe Jesus felt the emotions of dying (which is physical) therefore he asked "Father why hast thou forsaken me." Which showed his human frailty, never was Jesus separated from God....
In dying Jesus was still part of God's purpose and plan and the plan was never separated from the originator.....

I have really never given this topic any thought until ASWSOY brougt it up, but looking at it from different sides I think you can make a case for both. I think that in what ever conclusion we come to, we make sure that its based on the word and not our own theology.
I think the most important thing is understand spiritual death... which is defined as eternal seperation from God...Is it possible that jesus could have paid that price for us at calvary?

How can one be eternally separated from God temporarily (since Jesus is no longer dead)?
The truth is, it was by the Spirit of God that Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice: "How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!" (Heb. 9:14)

Does Spiritual Death only elude to eternal separation from God? Or Just a separation period?

It depends on how we define spiritual death.
At any rate, it would have to be eternal separation, since the unrepentant sinner, upon death, suffers an eternity without the glorious presence of the Lord; God is only present in wrath, vengeance, and justice. Otherwise, we could all join Pearson's church and be done with it.

Well I personally don't think Jesus experience spiritual death cause if He did He wouldn't been able to rise up from the dead on that third day....That is just what I feel!!!

i dont believe He did and neither did He have to. It was imperative that He die in the flesh as a grain of wheat in order for the Spirit to explode out.

Very True Beaulah, it was imperative that HE die in order to wash away the sins of man for good, because the sacrifice's of animals just didn't cute it. I mean it covered sin but it didn't wash them completley away.....So God had to send down a perfect sacrifice. His only begotten son JESUS.

When an animal was sacrificed as a sin offering, the ultimate purpose to an already repenting sinner was to realise, as the animal died and its soul/life was off to its final destination, that it should have been his/her own soul meeting that fate. And that it would also increase the desire of the repenting heart to get closer to God and his Word, and not fall again into sin. Jesus committed his spirit unto the Father on the cross, before he died. In Isaiah, it is written that he was rewarded for the labour of his soul...

Wowwwwwww in my Scripture reading this morning I came across this scripture and I thought it was very fitting for this thread...........This is so powerful!
John 10:17-18
17) Therefore doth my Father Love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18)No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down, and I have power to take it again. THis commandment have I received of my Father.
Wewwwwww I started rejoicing after I read this!!!! Asante Yesu!!!
