As you all know, there are several traditions within the Black church that make it distinct from predominantly White churches. So I just wanted to know just how "traditional" your church is, if you attend a predominantly Black one. For instance, do you celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and is white the color that the mothers/missionaries wear? Is there a mother's board in your church? Do a lot of the women wear hats? Do any of the choirs or ministers wear robes? And so on and so forth...

We have communion the first Sunday of the month. but I know black churches that dont. We were white on communion Sunday. Deacons must wear white. Other can wear white if they got it.. we don't wear white on bad weather days.
No boards.. church too small for that... Most women dont wear hats. We dont have robes.. some churches do and some dont...

Testimony service Standing when the pastor enters after worship part of service The priming of the organ when the pastor gets to the conclusion of the service Titles: Apostle, Reverend, First Lady and Bishop are all too common. No one want to be teachers no more

my church, part of the apostolic organization church of our lord jesus christ, inc., is traditional with contemporary overtones......
1) communion on 1st sunday, and only the missionaries wear white spring/fall and black fall and winter 2) when preaching the word on a sunday morning, most elders wear robes, most ministers do not, but our pastor, very laid back, on any given sunday, will preach in a shirt and tie! 3) most people dress casual, a select FEW among the women wear suits and hats and the whole church mother or first lady look, only 2 or 3 women wear hats on a regular basis, i am not one of them, lol 4) praise team vs testimony service - this is still a controversy, so much so that most recently the brought back the testimony portion in lieu of those 20 min or so that everyone is chatting and lauging in the sanctuary while waiting for service to begin instead of quietly meditating, sitting in prayer, and preparing hearts and minds for morning worship before the praise team starts service 5) no mother board, but that's just cause of the membership size

His Pen, what about women wearing pants in general? You know that's really frowned upon in COOLJC as a whole, but it really depends on how liberal a diocese your church is in.

Yes, you are right, the official answer would be, no COOLJC does not allow women to wear pants at all. But the fact is many local churches and diocese' have become very lenient with that rule and others, such as jewelry, for example. The church I grew up in and attended until 4 years ago didn't and still doesn't allow it but the church I attend now is more lenient.

I think if we really looked we would find that every church has " traditions" whether black, white. hispanic or whatever.
The questions become IMO do these traditions hinder the Word of God.

Communion is served whenever the Lord lays it on Pastor to have communion.
No particular color to where on certain sundays. (I personally don't wear white unless a white shirt....and that is a RARETY because i don't like wearing white).
Most don't wear pants to church....I don't for service, prayer or bible study.
We're a head covering church.
We usually have testimonies and then the Word of God.
When the choir gets bigger, we may have robes etc.

I'm curious: for those of y'all whose church has communion whenever your pastor announces it, about how many times a year does that come to on average?

We used to have communion whenever the Lord dealt with the leaders... the deacon and deaconess, some of the leaders wear white.
We presider who open and close the service, scripture reading and exhortor by budding ministers who were in training. Praise & worship team, prophetic drama team, dance, choir (sometime with robes), P7W return before the speaker minister... P&W after the speaker ... call for prayer and salvation... Tithes and offering
A long time ago... ministers could not wear pant to church.... now we can wear pant, jean... as long as it is decent...
In some churches the preacher preach in jean... and the choir minister in jeans... one of the church is an all black church and the other is mix with a white pastor...

There are traditions found in all churches..even if they say " We aren't a traditional church"..it comes out in one or another. The church I attend has Apostolic, Cogic, a little baptist, and a little methodist..and you know it's what we call NON Denominational. We don't do communion each month, we wear pants, we have a Praise and Worship team, and a Hammond b3 organ, and we still have youth Sunday on the last Sunday of the month..and on and on and on.

Well the church I attend now is a Full Gospel Baptist Church..
We have communion every first sunday, the ministers and the mothers wear black and white, the ushers wear black and red
We have a praise team and a youth choir
Youth Sunday is on 4th sunday and we can dress down then. Even our pastor dresses in a shirt and jeans. And the color is purple (the church color)
The ladies can wear pants. I dont wear them a lot, I wear mostly skirts and dresses, but I might put on some nice slacks for casual day, but I havent worn any jeans yet, just jean skirts.
We have a board of leaders, like the auxialiary leaders and also ministers and so forth.
I will tune up on the keyboard if I hear the pastor tune up..lol Hey its still the preaching of the word!
We have prayer before sunday school on Sundays at 8am, and noon day prayer on Tuesdays, wednesday bible study.
We have deacons, a church mother, associate ministers, I am a female minister (the only one at church, probably because I came from another ministry that recognized more women ministers)

We don't have communion...maybe once or twice or year
The women wear pants
We have a praise and worship team
There is no choir...
We a few deacons ( less than 5)
Many of the women don't wear makeup of any kind...I wear lip stick or lip gloss.
We have tambourines..
Nobody is tarrying for the Holy Ghost..don't believe it's needed ( I do!!)
There are no boards..
And sadly, even though we say we're not traditional..we are very tradiitional because even though we say we are Non Denomational..I see the Baptist tradtions, the COGiC traditions, and the thinking of both denomational that comes from being "Churched"..and void of a relationship with Christ
And GDD... I do agree that tradition does hinder the Word of God.
