OK, if it is realized that Jesus was on earth when speaking these words, they why do we apply it to some sort of "heavenly house"? One word in the passage with only two letters makes all the difference in the world.

Well, actually that wasn't the word I had in mind, but it buttresses the point. Jesus says "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am[/i], there ye may be also." "AM" is a present-tense word. Jesus says that if He goes to prepare a place for us, He will come again to receive us unto Himself. The word "receive" in the passage actually carries the meaning "to join to one's self." Couple that with what Jesus says later on in the chapter: "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." (vv.16-18) Wow.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying the mansion spoken of dwelleth within us?
Although that may seem to be implied, by some.
I take my rest in John 14:1-3 (1)Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe in me also. (2)In My Father's House are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself that whereI am, there you may be also.
In these scriptures we receive from Jesus' own lips the promise of His return. Jesus tells us of a peace, a promise, and a place.
I do believe that if we live Holy we can experience Heaven on earth.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying the mansion spoken of dwelleth within us? We are the mansions, or the dwelling places. That last sentence is more than a mouthful. The peace, the promise, and the place are not far-off, yet-to-be-realized celestial realities; they are present realities, made fully known to us by means of the baptism and indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

LOL - Is this mansion a building or not?
(This statement also applies to the anointing of the Holy Spirit to know of these things)
I agree with that statement, and am not sure if we are saying the same thing.
John 16:5;7 5. "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?
7. "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you: but if I depart, I will sent Him to you.
Ps. 110:1 The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool".

Are there really buildings in heaven? I don't know, but for me that is neither here nor there, since heaven isn't my home.

I don't believe the Bible teaches we (the saints) will live in heaven for all eternity. I agree based on this scripture: Revelation 21:1-8 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

That's it! The New Jerusalem came DOWN from God OUT OF heaven.
By the way, Jesus didn't say the meek would inherit heaven, but that the meek would inherit the earth.
