Amen Keita! And at the end of the day we can also be real and say that if by the time u are in ministery and folks are calling u a drag queen then it also calls for some self-examination as well! *wink*wink God never called anyone to dress in drag to reach nobody. It is time for judgement to begin in the house of the lord and if there were more who would be bold to say so we will not be in the mess that we are in-we have no standards for measuring our own and allow them to get away with anything untill the enemy gets them. Look at what is happening with all these so called ministers called of God who are now ending up joining G unit and being labelled paedophiles etc etc We say who are we to judge-well according to my bible the anointing does have an identity and it is righteousness. If they had come Beulah's way i would never have sanctioned them to be released into ministry in the first place untill they had matured. The church is riding high on gifts at the moment and yet failing when it comes to character. Tonex and others do need to sit down till God puts some more fire on him and if they wont sit down God in His unfailing love will sit them down -like He has done to us and will continue to chastise and discipline those He loves. Forgive me i have a tendency to say what most people are really thinking anyway

I also wanted to add that tonex old "appearance" is not uncommon for San Diego residents. You'd be surprised, and shocked at the same time. But it goes back to getting past the messenger and receiving the message. The way this generation dresses, is nothing like the former. We have saved women with mohawks singing in gospel groups. Who is to say that their look is not holy? Or that their look does not carry the annointing? Since when does the annointing come with your look? What/Who people need to see is Christ. thats it, and thats all! I am reminded of something Evangelist Rita Womack said at a MLAI meeting. "Before you go sizing me up about my blonde hair, you better go where I have been in the Spirit". In other words, I am annointed and appointed by God, and my blonde hair that you can't get past don't make me less annointed. You don't know what I've had to go through to get where I am today. (thats my interpretation of her saying.) Its going back to the thread, should women and men of God wear dreadlocks? And my opinion stands..Rock'em man or woman of God. When did the spirit suggest that we needed to dress alike? When we posted our pictures online, and I had the blue dress on, with the hat. I dont even dress like that anymore. I feel like thats too "grandmamaish". Thats what every women in a cogic church dress like. Whether you are a evangelist, missionary, 1st lady, whatever, you dress in the hats, the elegant suits, the matching assesories and etc. I don't have to do that anymore, and quite frankly I was spending way to much money trying to keep up the look. When its a dress up day, hey id be more than happy to pull out the "cogic" attire. I still maintain an appearance that presentable, but I no longer have to do the skirt down to the ankles, and hats, and suits every sunday. We sanctified folks can rock some decent outfits when we want to. Now we all know that tonex has came out of the appearance, of dark eye shadow, pants/dress skirts, big cat &the hat hats, and I truly believe that is largely due to God, and being placed as the pastor of his father's church. We do have to be careful of our appearance, that we don't offend people, but on the other if your offended because I wear dreads, you need to go turn your face to the wall like King Hezekiah, and tell the Lord about all of your troublems.

No truer words have been spoken... cause you ain't never gonna please everybody... BTW - I'm looking at my cover of A Piece of my Passion and I still can't see how someone can mistake it for R&B or how someone can "think" it's too sexy for a gospel artist... ;D

... troublems. LOL! I love that! I was and am truly blessed by Tonex's song "Lord Make Me Over" that I posted the lyrics to earlier. I think this present situation may just be a case of what in legal terms is known as "asked and answered."

I got talked about and ostracized because I refuse to wear the long skirt suits and all of that glittery stuff.... For one thing I am to young to have skirts down to my ankle..... When my legs start looking crazy then i will cover up ;D but until then rock on Sistah!!!!

People don't see things through our eyes, but through their own. Honestly, even the name, "a piece of my passion" can have an erotic tone to it. Each time I read this entire thread, without fail, this scripture comes to mind: 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 [NKJV] All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

Jasmine and LANL..ya'll are too funny..thank God for liberty. I attended a COGIC for a minute and I knew when I crossed the door that look wasn't for me..and I was over 35 yrs. old. I generally wore nice pantsuits and etc. Yet, when I was placed in ministry..the Pastor wanted us to wear certain colors during special occasions, certain Sundays of the month, and etc. thank God I had most of these colors in my wardrobe..and if I had to buy something I was blessed with a job at a local retail catalog company..were they had sales once a month and you could get a whole outfit for 4.00, or if I shopped in the store..I got a 40% percent discount..so the most I have ever spent on a suit is 13.00. And since I have small feet..I brought the sample shoes...which were my size for 10.00 and under. I now wear what I am comfortable. Ya'll call them COGIC suits..they were in the Baptist church, too. I could not see spending a $150.00 for suit, 60.00 for shoes to match, 60.00 for the purse, and 80.00 - 100.00 for a hat. Just recently my Mom spent 125.00 for a suit..she couldn't really afford it; on this particular Sunday everyone had the wear the same color and same style suit..go figure I would have just brought a burgundy dress.

1. As Christians we should never be trying to put emphasis/ bring attention to ourselves because of the way we look but rather because Christ lives in us. For a black person to die their hair blond (or even red) is meant to bring attention to themselves. Additionally, a person is annointed to do a certain work for God and not all people that are anointed at a given time have repented. God will use anyone.
2. Does "holiness" have a look? I would say yes. There are some things that one does or doesn't do based on the word of God and long hair on men goes against the Word of God... in that way I would say that holiness and the Word of God go hand in hand. If a person wants to be holy, they'll do what the Word is requiring.
3. Saying a hat is to "set apart" for you (general) is very odd. I also wouldn't go to say that skirts down to the ankle is dressing old. It's all based on one's motives. If one wants to wear shorter things to show off their legs, I believe that that is a problem. We should be very careful about what we wear as to not purposely cause a person to sin. Yes, I've heard the "Well some people will still ust even if I had on a potato sack." however, the point remains that we must be conscious of what we do and why we are doing it.
4. Although we are free, our freedom is in Jesus for we are no longer bound by sin.... however, it is important to not take it too far as to end up being bound by that which you (general) call freedom
Most of you know that I'm not very old and it's kind of funny but many of the things that have been stated if you were to have talked to me 2-3 years ago, I would've agreed. However, as the time draws nigh, I am seeing the importance and validity in many of the things that the seasoned saints taught in regards to dressing and even hairstyles. And even in reading some of the comments I can see how things can easily get out of hand and how an unsaved person could read these and....... But like one other poster stated as the scripture says (paraphrased) "Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should."

Well, me and my blond streaks are continuing on!!! ;D Nothing against you personally Nikki, because I know how you feel about certain issues... I honestly think and feel that regardless of what you do, someone is going to have a problem with you and their feelings of whether you are living holy. I don't think my hair brings attention to me... actually it accentuates my skin tone as I don't think that brassy blonde would look good on me... ;D
I don't think that at the end of the day it would matter if your skirt was long or short, hair black or blonde, pants or not... is going to make one bit of difference as to whether you make it in the kingdom...
If you would really sit down and talk to some of the older saints, the reason they made these "rules" were to set people apart.... then and even still now, holiness was and is segregated by what you have on and not by what you are living... am I less saved because my skirt is at my knee and my hair is blonde streaked?
