I just recently heard his new commercial on the radio for his latest play...... it was bad enough to me that he was wearing women's apparell and kept using the "h" word....... but on this commercial, he actually says the "a" word. It comes out as though he made a "slip". (which on the radio is followed by a whole bunch of ppl laughing)...... I think he's just gone way too far......it's sad, to say the least.

Well, the "a" word is actually nothing new for him; he just doesn't use it nearly as often as "hell." I was a little surprised that he included it in a commercial, but to hear it in a play (usually just once, and not even in all plays) isn't really surprising. I'm not condoning it, but just providing some context here. And I'm really tempted to make a Baptist joke here (TP is Baptist), but I will refrain, LOL.

LOL.
Well, I'm not supporting anything else he does until he can make it a CHRISTIAN play and not a play where he throws God in almost as an afterthought... then again, that is how he can make money.... Having enough "blackness" so that it appears real to the sinner and enough gospel songs to appeal to the saints....

If I cut him out, than I should stop going to the movie, watching TV and stay off the internet... because they don't throw God in it at all.... Almost everything appeal to sinners....

I have been in church where the visiting preacher said the "h" and "a" word over the pulpit.... ane one said the "n" word.... nobody had an heart attack.... But unless you're talking about the actual place hell, should that word be used over the pulpit. Even in conservative settings, most will use the word donkey instead. And why anyone would use that other word in the pulpit (which must've been a black guy because if a white guy said it, it would be seen as VERY inappropriate). But the question is, just because ppl didn't have a heart attack, would that mean that it's ok? To me, that's more of a standard issue. Even at work when ppl use the "a" word or even say the "d" work (what beavers build) they even apologize to me because they know it's considered profane.....and my fear of God would NEVER have me saying that; ESPECIALLY from the pulpit. If someone used that word at our church, they'd probably be done preaching right at that point. Although since our church is pretty conservative, I could never imagine someone coming and using that type of language as well as when people do come, pastor and I have heard them minister or come highly recommended from very close friends of ours who KNOWS how our church is...

I think we had one preacher when giving his testimony about his background used all 3 words... "a", "d" and "n".... He lived on the street since he was 9(with only third grade education) and a former pimp... He said he had to learn how to talk without cursing, when he got saved... LOL.... even though he consider himself black, cause was raise by a black pimp.... He is totally white.... my Apostle had a long talk with him and he came back and apologized to the church. The man can preach and is off the chain.... just too much street talk in his preaching....

What's "funny" (using that word VERY LIGHTLY) was that I remember when I use to hear preachers curse and I'd get all excited because he did something wrong and I thought it was cool. Now I "mark" ministers who can't preach the Word without saying profane words...there's even one woman minister that has become known as the "cussing preacher" she's a quote unquote powerful preacher....but it's still wrong. And when I was younger, I got a kick out of seeing TP dressed in women's clothing and using the "h" word because it was wrong and I thought it made him more "real" -- I'm SO GLAD that I've matured from that. At the same time, if I thought that way, how many other people think that way? And even worse, how many people have started using these same words because since TP says it and he's a Christian they must be able to say it too? As someone that some may actually see as a role model, we must be careful of the messages that we send.

*why do I keep hearing about Tyler all of a sudden*
Anyways, I was flicking through the stations and Tyler was on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. So I thought I'd hear what his movie was about....anyways, Steve mentions how there are ppl who are not really happy with the work that he's doing and Tyler said they could "kiss his __________"..... I didn't think that he'd blatantly just say it. Of course the ppl on the show were laughing about it and asked him what he said to which he repeated it at least 2 times.....
WHAT IS GOING ON???!!!!
What makes me upset/hurt the most is that this is what ppl see when they see Christianity...*sigh*....so sad.

The reality is that for most African Americans church is cultural. Its a part of our history and background. Most of our black organizations started in or were affiliated with the church. Its always been our meeting place and community center. Our Grandma's dragged us to church, we went to vocation bible school, Boys and Girls scouts were held in the church. Therefore we have an understanding of God and who God is. Now whether or not that understanding turns into RELATIONSHIP is another matter entirely.
See and the reality is that its not whether I acknowledge that I have a relationship with GOD that makes it authentic, its whether GOD acknowledges HE has a relationship with ME that makes it authentic.
ANd unfortunately the church is a lot to blame because oftentimes it will not separate itself from black culture. We invite unsaved artists to our events OR we invite those that speak enough Christianese to be convincing. Why does Steve Harvey host the Gospel awards and then have a comedy show two weeks later where he curses left and right. Why does Patti Labelle who I have never seen openly confess Jesus as her Lord and Savior keep getting invites to shows? Why does Bishop Jakes invite India Aire to events.
Just because a person mentions or writes about " God " in their music doesnt mean that they are a christian. At the same time Christians need to be more concerned about what events they go to and where they appear. As we always say make sure you are a SENT ONE not a WENT ONE. I dont care if Oprah calls me, I aint going unless GOD sends me.

Good points.....
I was talking with my husband not too long ago and he was talking about how there is now a "breed" of preachers that will tell you that they weren't called into ministry but they just went....and aren't embarrassed or anything about it.
It's sad for many ppl are being led astray. Just because someone is popular doesn't mean that they should have a "platform".... it's just as bad as watching a church service and they keep putting the camera on the "famous person"....
that reminds me, what ever happened to that one guy who became a preacher and said he'd never do secular again, became a pastor and then went back to the world with his "welcome bacK' album.....I remember seeing him on TBN in passing and he really didn't fit...not because the others were "so anointed" but he just shouldn't have been pushed to that platform....

Hey Guys, How's it going? I will say that I'm OK with Tyler Perry... Why? Because I take him for what he is... a Black entertainer, nothing more nuthin' less... I think he is giving a lot of lip about what people are saying about him because supposedly one of those people is Spike Lee... it may appear that there may be a tad bit of jealousy going around there. I'm not sure why because there is certain space to have many Black film makers around. We are a diverse group and have more than one point of view.
Plus I will say that there are several reasons that I do like Tyler Perry's movies. Starting with the fact that he at leasts attemps to show Black love relationships in a positive light, promotes Black marriage, and has beautiful black women as actors that aren't always embraced by society as beautiful such as the character played by Jill Scott in the Why Did I Get Married films.
As for Tyler Perry being a Christian... well i think it's like Giants said... he represents the "cultural Christian" in the Black community. I mean seriously... we know that a lot of people are not saved. But how many people in the black community would actually claim not to believe in God? Think about it... that's one of the reason that the whole demonic, goth culture never got going to amount to anything with our youth... It's just now changing... For example... A woman that I know who claims to be saved and has a belief in God recent went out and got a tattoo on the small of her back that was the symbol of the "power of 3" from the popular tv series Charmed... Now if you ask her if she is a Christian she will say absolutely... But her actions just don't add up and I don't even think she is aware of what the tattoo symbolizes... So for me... I don't mind Tyler Perry... he a step up from what else we have been exposed to.
