Jessica,
I asked one of the Social Workers at my church what options were available to you at your local welfare office. She stated that you will need to go to Social Services, or your Local Housing Authority Agency, and they can do 1 or 2 things.
If you find an apartment, Social Services can give you money for deposit on any apartment or house,. Your Local Housing Authority can set you up on Section 8. Section 8 will pay your rent for you or will require you to pay a certain amount..very low. Talking "Dollars" and not Hundreds. Its based upon your income.
There are options out there. If you decide to get assistance from the government..remember its should be temporary, or until you are able to save money to provide for your essential needs.
I know God will bless you sis.

Jassica
Also go to HUD housing web-site, get a list of all section 8 housing in your area. On days that you are off, check out the area and apartments. You can go directly to those apartments and ask for an application and to be put on the list. That what I did when I was homeless living with a church member, she rented a room to me. Within a few months I was called in for a one bedroom apartment. The rent is based on your gross annual income divided by 12 and time 30%, minus utilities allowance. put your estimateed security deposit aside. It is the same as your rent except the no utilities allowance deducted. I used to be a property mangager for a section 8 apartment. Also put aside the deposit to turn on your light or gas on. A good manger will focus on putting decent ppl in their unit, instead of going directly by the list. Let the manger know that you are not hooked up with any guy and all you do is go to work and church and you keep a clean apartment and pay your rent on time. They will might bypass all other on the waiting list and put you in. Save your income tax return and use it for moving. Plus follow the advices that was given to you by other above.... God will open doors to you. Remember this is just a season you are walking in to exercise your faith and to bring you into purpose.
Be Blessed

girl..I have been there. I know that this is a temporary place for you. Girl, I found that the public transportation was the best place to witness and talk to people. I am crazy enough to believe that someone will place a set of keys..both house and car in your hands. Someone did it to me. I know that it seems difficult right now..yet, young lady take the necessary steps toward what is waiting on you. Have you checked you local paper for apartments that have move in specials ? Even if you do a web search for your city..I know that something will pop up..checking out renting from an elderly couple, or have you considered taking a job as a live in CNA ?

Girl...before I got the job I have now..I was down to my LAST 2 weeks of unemployment. And had not prospects. I had interviewed for the position and passed the interview..there was no room in the class and I would have to wait a year for the next class..but, that Friday before the class was due to start my phone rung and yes, I had a very attitude, frustrated, and everything else..while looking at the caller id on the phone..when I answered it was the HR director introducing herself and asking me if I was still looking for work? I accepted her offer and have been her going on 3 yrs..it's not always easy. Yet, God is always with us and will deliver us..check out ads for an elder person or persons looking to rent a room in their home..until you can save enough money to rent an apartment. I know someone has something for rent that you afford.

Thank guys for the advise, it has been real difficult to save any money. I really don't make a whole lote being CNA, and staying in the hotel is realy expensive even with the lodging vouchers that my job gives me on the nights that I work..... Plus not having a vehicle us hard as well getting to and from where I need to go...... I know the hotel is taking up all your money, that's why I say save your income tax return.... I've been there. Most churches will help their members with security deposit and utilities deposit. You have to sacrifice to check out may be two section 8 apartment a week... get their phone number through from the section 8 list or phone book, call them first, so you wont waste your money and time. Take whatever little step you can. Also call for a section 8 voucher to be put on their list. Look for room or studio apartment, utilities are usually included. Make sure it is in a good transportation area to commute back and forth to work. The doors will open. A week after I moved into my section 8 apartment, I lost my job and couldn't get unemployment because they had me as independent contrator, while working in their office and using their computer . I paid my first month rent (prorated, I moved in near the end of the month) my security deposit and utility, but I didn't have my next month rent... I pray and cried out to God, my church paid the rent for me. Than my rent went down to Zero!!! and I received $59 amonth from my apartment from my Utilities allow! They paid me! I begin to sew and make church banners for a living... all my needs were met with no income. I even went to a women convention out of town, staying in a hotel for three days with no income. I paid tithes with the $59, light bills and personal items and kept my hair done ;D. I also tithe with my time at the church. I clean, make tape copies (this was years ago, no cds . I did alot of sewing... some ppl refuse to pay me (you know how church ppl is... everything suppose to be free) but God met my needs through that season of faith walk. It is a faith walk.... AT
